Raw Learning operates much like a co*op. Parents and community members volunteer to facilitate and/or teach. Their children come for free or at a very reduced rate. One of our guiding principles is that community learning be available and affordable for every student.
Raw Learning offers attendance that ranges from just joining as homeschoolers on field trips to full time enrollment and everything in between, even classes ala carte like an enrichment center. What ever attendance works for your family, works for Raw Learning!
enrollment interview
An informal interview will be conducted with the parent(s) and child for familiarization and current policy review and discussion. This is typically done during the initial visit to Raw Learning.

tuition work off program
In order to serve as many children from our community as possible, Raw Learning allows parents or their substitutes to volunteer in whatever capacity possible (teacher, facilitator, cleaning, marketing, grant writing, supplies procurement, etc) at the rate of $10/ hour discounted off of tuition. Teachers will receive a $20/hour discount off of tuition.
Facilitators are welcome to bring their unenrolled children to Raw Learning with them. They will solely be responsible for the children and will need to pay the $10 (+ $5 for each additional child who is walking, maximum of $20) supplies fee, or have it deducted from their credits.
The available facilitator hours will be split in a way that works for all facilitators.
Facilitators must make every effort to attend all facilitator meetings to maintain consistency when working with people at Raw Learning. Meetings take place every Friday from 3:30-4:30. Facilitators are expected to be very familiar with the Rules at Raw Learning as well as the Facilitator Responsibilities (below) and Steps to Address Violent Conflict.

compulsory attendance laws
If a student doesn't attend Raw Learning for 990 hours or more per year, they will not be in compliance with the compulsory attendance laws of Virginia (Virginia Code § 22.1-254). If this might be the case the family could consider filing their Notice of Intent to homeschool by August 15th, before the beginning of the school year. Go to www.vahomeschooler.org for more information.
family attendance for homeschoolers and/or adults with babies through preschoolers
Homeschoolers are very welcome to come by Raw Learning at any time. The fee for preplanned family attendance is $10 for the first child and $5 for subsequent children up to a maximum of $20. For folks who would like to drop in, the fee is set at $12 for the first child and $6 for subsequent children, up to a maximum of $30. If any of the fees mentioned above would cause a financial burden that would prohibit attendance, please contact Gleamer to make alternative financial arrangements. Homeschooling families who join us for the day (or just part of it) enjoy all of the resources, non-compulsory classes and field trips offered. All ages are welcome.
Please attend a parent/facilitator meeting on Fridays from 3:30-4:30 prior to coming to familiarize yourself with our policies. Homeschoolers are expected to adhere to the philosophy, policies and rules of Raw Learning while attending.
If you wish to drop off your child(ren), please see the tuition fees above. An enrollment application and interview must be previously completed if the children will be left in Raw Learning's care.
