Homeschool BBQ
What a fantastic turn out! Over 40 people came to play, eat and chat. The water was great on the hot day and the new sandbox was well loved. The Raw Learning community is really wonderful. We missed all of you who couldn’t come.
Field Trip- Tuesday, June 1st –Deauville Fallow Dear Farm: Bayse
*Only families preregistered may attend with Raw Learning. Fall Trimester field trips will be available to register for in August.
8:55AM-Raw Learning will be leaving from the University Outpost Bookstore at I-81’s Exit 245.
9:40AM-Arrive Deauville Fallow Dear Farm. The address is 7648 Crooked Run Road
Basye, VA 22810. Here are directions from the University Outpost Bookstore. Please print directions out even if you plan on following us from the Bookstore.
Be sure to check the weather forecast and bring sunscreen and/or rain gear and a picnic lunch.
11:30AM- Leave The Deer Farm to go to Shenandoah Bowling Lanes. Their address is 5904 Main St., Mt. Jackson, VA 22842
12:00PM-Arrive Shenandoah Bowling Lanes.
Small people will need to bring socks. The smallest size shoe available is a women’s 5 and men’s 4.
1:30-2:00-Leave Shenandoah Bowling Lanes.
2:00-2:30-Arrive Harrisonburg. Depending on the weather we’ll spend the rest of the day at the Dream Come True Playground on Neff Avenue or at the Harrisonburg Children’s Museum.
WVPT Kid’s Book Festival
Raw Learning will participate in the Festival on June 5th from 11:00 to 3:00 at JMU’s Memorial Hall (formerly Harrisonburg High School). We’ll have parachutes to color, assemble and launch at our table. There are books for everyone under 10 and tons of free stuff. We hope to see you there!
Please let Gleamer know if you will help at the Raw Learning table from 11:00-12:00.
1 Camping Spot Available
There is one 20’ X 20’ tent pad left at the Raw Learning Buddy Site for the Westmoreland camping trip. We will arrive on June 11th and leave on June 13th. You can come for one night or two. Each night costs $25. There is so much to do there including kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking PLUS Raw Learning activities such as campfire bread baking and team games. A stop at the Westmoreland Berry Farm to get some treats and see the goat walk will be lots of fun too.
Summertime @ Raw Learning
There will be free information and play sessions at Raw Learning twice a week on Tuesday late afternoons and Thursday mornings from Tuesday, July 13th through Thursday, August 12th and on Tuesday, August 31st and Thursday, September 2nd. We hope to see you then!
Ceramics
ARC of Harrisonburg donated 15 boxes of a wide assortment of ceramics to Raw Learning that they no longer wanted to store. We also have acrylic paint. Would you or someone you know like to come and facilitate a ceramics painting class for the fall? Please contact Gleamer.
