Location Raw Learning is located in the rear of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, facing N. Coalter St (the address is 2807 N. Augusta St., which is where the front of the church is). At the rear of the church there is a playground. Come into the playground and through the gray door that is in the far right corner. Peaceful Parenting Discussion Group
Are you seeking more joyful and harmonious relationships with your children?
If you are, come check out our discussion group that usually meets the 4th Friday of every month. This month it will be on the 5th Friday of the month.
We meet to support one another as we explore and practice non-coercive parenting and consensual living. This is a parenting practice that values the wants and needs of everyone equally - regardless of age - and avoids power struggles through the creation of mutually agreeable solutions. This principle is also the key to harmony at Raw Learning.
We are all on our own unique paths as indiviuals, parents, and families.
This month the discussion will surround the idea of supporting each other as well as people, parents, and families who we encounter in our lives.

Summer at Raw Learning
FREE information and play sessions at Raw Learning beginning on Tuesday, June 25th. They are on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30 and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30.
Come and enjoy playing and learning with friends during the summer!
Mark you calendars to come to as many sessions as you can to learn about the Raw Learning Community and to keep in touch through the summer months.
Integrated Summer Camp -FREE
- Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 beginning June 27th.
-This gathering will have a class structure with Alison Bell as the leader.
-An adult attends with child(ren).
-A simplified rule set so children with special needs can succeed in following them and can practice behaviors usually expected in public (e.g. being gentle, offering to share, etc.).
-Be “unplugged” – a short holiday from electronics and screens!
-Have a basic, predictable structure with activities in which individual children could participate as their interest leads. For example, we might offer 30-minute blocks of art/craft, activity, snack, and free play.
-Create a summer schedule in which each participating child proposes one (or more) day’s craft, activity, or snack.

Bring: Your own t-shirt! Long or short sleeved. Choose a very dark or very light color, or white.
Don't wear/apply: Scents, colognes, or perfumes. The owner of Shenandoah Moon is highly allergic.

10:00am--Arrive at the Studios

Wear: Appropriate clothing for a breezy, cool and possibly rainy afternoon.
11:30am--Eat lunch at the picnic table adjacent to the Maze and Ropes course or grab a super quick bite at a local cafe or deli.
12:00pm-Enjoy the Garden Maze and/or the Rope Adventure Park. You can enter the Maze as many times as you would like during the day.
2:00pm-If you are not finished enjoying the Maze and Ropes, you are welcome to stay past the field trip time.

Peaceful Parenting
We meet to support one another as we explore and practice non-coercive interactions between children and adults. This practice values the wants and needs of everyone equally - regardless of age - and avoids power struggles through the creation of mutually agreeable solutions.
THIS is the core to Raw Learning. Respect for EVERY person is key to the freedom to learn.
This month we will explore processing feelings of discomfort regarding a child's exploratory play, something that care givers of youngsters of all ages experience. Questions pop up in our minds that ask if the play is age appropriate, too sexual, indicative of a psychological problem, in line with familial and personal beliefs, etc.
How do we cope with these feelings without shaming our children? When and how do we draw the line? Come explore these questions and others during April's Peaceful Parenting Discussion Group.

Important Items to Pack for the Conditions of Assateague Island-
*Sun screen
*Insect repellent. Extra strength with DEET. Just in case all this warm weather has hatched hoards of mosquitoes and biting flies.
*Clothing in layers for the weather. Long pants and a short sleeve under a sweat shirt and very warm clothing for sleeping in. TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE MID 40S WITH THE WIND AND HIGH OF 50.
*Extra long tent stakes. Gleamer read about a person's tent being blown over with them in it! You can also bring buckets to fill with sand to put on top of the tent stakes or to tie the tent to. IT IS GOING TO BE VERY WINDY (GUSTS OF 40MPH!) BE PREPARED!!!
*All food must be stored in a latchable hard-sided cooler or vehicle. The wild horses will take your food if you turn your back or leave it unattended for a moment!
*Toilet paper
*Sanitizer

Monday, April 22nd
12pm-Raw Learning will close for the day. Families will leave for Assateague Island. Please let Gleamer know if you would like to caravan from Raw Learning or join up along the way.
Directions- The address to enter into GPS is 7206 National Seashore Ln, Berlin, MD 21811. This will bring you to the Visitors Center just before the Verrazano Bridge. Proceed over Verrazano Bridge. Take first right onto BayBerry Drive. Continue 2.25 miles to entrance station. Take first right to ranger station. Gleamer will register and check us in to our group campsite.
The distance is about 300 miles and will take about 5 hours and 45 minutes.

Buy Immediately Before Entering Island -Wood (Do not bring your own because of the Emerald Ash Borer.) and more ice. You can stop at store before we get to the Visitors Center for ice. All recommendations say to buy wood from folks selling it along the road.
Upon arrival-Set up camp. Feed your family. Not necessarily in that order.
Tuesday, April 23rd
In the morning and early afternoon you can explore the island on your own or go as a group on hikes, play in the sand, and/or catch some crabs.

Meet in the parking lot.
Dress for the sand and beach.
If it is warm enough, leave your shoes behind!
During the late afternoon and evening, prepare dinner, and play in the sand.
Wednesday, April 24th
9:00am-Break Camp
You can stay until 11am. They are very strict about having folks leave promptly at 11am.
Visit the south end of the Assateague Island.

There are trails and a lighthouse (http://www.assateagueisland.com/lighthouse/lighthouse_info.htm)as well as abundant wild life, including horses.
Around 11:30am-Lunch. You can picnic or try out one of the many restaurants in the area. Gary Howard's Take Out for sea food (http://www.garyhowardseafood.com/takeout.html), Sea Star Cafe for sandwiches (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/314/1303374/restaurant/Virginia/Chincoteague...), and Island Creamery (http://www.islandcreamery.net/about.html) for dessert to absolutely knock everyone out for the ride home!

10:25am-Gather behind the municipal building in the stone paved park next to the little waterfall which is at the west end of the Farmer's Market. We will divide into groups.
10:30am-11:30am-Tour, tastings, mapping, and demonstrations.
11:30am-LUNCH-Picnic next to the Harrisonburg Farmers Market on the grass or a picnic table.
Virginia Quilt Museum: Harrisonburg
12:00pm-Meet at the Virginia Quilt Museum which is adjacent to the Farmer's Market at 301 South Main Street.
The tour and activities will last until around 1-1:30.

9s-Teens--A New Welcoming Structure!
Lack of consistent interactions with their peer group is one of the main reason many adolescent homeschoolers decide to attend a traditional school. Raw Learning can help!
Come hang out and socialize! A cafe with various drinks and snacks available for free. Games, activities, and camaraderie will abound while the young folks learn some of the most important skills necessary for success: emotional regulation and social cues in a group setting.
Wednesdays Apr 3-Jun 12 from 3:30-6:00
The pay as you go fee is $10/child for the first 2 children. $5/child for additional children.
Facilitator's children will come for free when they facilitate.
If the facilitators children don't come on the day that they facilitate, they can come on another day.
If you tried 9s-Teens before and were disappointed, we encourage you to try the new welcoming structure that is implemented for the Spring Trimester.
A free open house will kick off the socializing on April 3rd from 3:30-6:00!
Attend with your adolescent and bring a snack to share.
The monthly 9s-Teens Parent Meeting is the first Friday of every month. This month the meeting will be on April 5th from 3:30-5:00. Please plan to attend to share how 9s-Teens will best meet your adolescent's needs.

9:45 PARKING- Gleamer will park in the metered parking lot where the Farmer’s Market is held on Saturdays that is bordered by W. South St, 1st St. S., W. Water St and 2nd St SW. Cost is $.25 per ½ hour payable in quarters only. Here is a link to a map of the area that might be helpful. The red A marker denotes where Revolutionary Soup is. The parking lot is just down 2nd St SW.
10:00-Meet Gleamer in the vicinity of the fountain that is to the left of The Paramount, if you are facing the marquee.
10:05 sharp- Raw Learning will leave the fountain to enter The Paramount. Please make sure you are there before 10:00. There will be many people to seat. It makes it more difficult when they can not seat a group as a whole. Please do not go in ahead of the Raw Learning group.
About 11:30- The show will end and we will be dismissed as a group.
LUNCH-Revolutionary Soup provides fast excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. There are many other restaurants on the Downtown Mall.
