The FIELD TRIP on Tuesday, June 5th— to Outdoor Adventure Experiences: Rockingham County has been postponed due to cool temperatures and the chance of rain.

    We will implement the rain date of Tuesday, June 19th.

    Please notify Gleamer by June 15th, at the latest, if you are unable to attend on the 19th.


Summer Time At Raw Learning

FREE information and play sessions at Raw Learning beginning on Thursday, June 21st. They are on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30 and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30.

Come and enjoy playing and learning with friends during the summer! Please come to as many sessions as you can to learn about the Raw Learning Community and to keep in touch through the summer months.

Location Raw Learning is located in the rear of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, facing N. Coalter St (the address is 2807 N. Augusta St., which is where the front of the church is). At the rear of the church there is a playground. Come into the playground and through the gray door that is in the far right corner. Please call Gleamer at 540.292.3002 if you would like further directions or can't find us.

Rental?
    Raw Learning is moving for bigger opportunities and better resources.   
    Please contact Gleamer if you know of a house with a couple acres located north of Staunton or south of Verona.

Trackside Theater: Luray

9:30am         Arrive Trackside Theater and begin workshop
11:30am       End workshop

Dancing Cow Farm: Luray

Directions: Dancing Cow Farm is located at 143 Lakewood Road in Luray.    

12:00pm     Arrive Dancing Cow Farm. During our picnic lunch there will be interactions with our host Susan Guest. As soon as we are finished eating we will proceed with the wonderful    activities she has planned.
2:00pm        Field trip ends.


Wet and Wild Field Day
   
    Join Raw Learning for a Field Day filled with all sorts of games, fun, and treats.   Bring bag lunches for your family, a fruit to share, and a bathing suit.
       
        Date: Thursday, May 31
        Time: 11am-2pm
        Cost: FREE


WVPT Kid's Book Fair will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at the Rockingham County Fair grounds from 11-3. Come and visit Raw Learning and many other organizations with fun activities for your family. Each child under age 10 gets a free book!

Middle River Farm: Grottoes

Directions: Middle River Farms is located at 1744 Weyers Cave Road, 5 minutes off of I-81, exit 235.

Anytime between 7:30am-9:30am U-pick Strawberries. Ask to pick in the section reserved for Raw Learning.

Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport: Weyers Cave

Directions: The airport is located at 77 Aviation Circle in Weyers Cave, 3 minutes off of I-81, exit 235.

10:00am-11:00am
The field trip will begin promptly at 10am. Please do not be late. The airport will only allow one adult per family.   
*Please contact Gleamer at gleamer@rawlearning.org or at 540.292.3002 immediately if you are preregistered and will not be attending the airport portion.
There is  a very long waiting list for the airport.
11:00am-11:30am Picnic lunch while we watch the planes take off and land.

Middle River Farm: Grottoes   

Directions: Middle River Farms is located at 1744 Weyers Cave Road, 5 minutes off of I-81, exit 235.   

12:00pm  Presentation on how strawberries plants are grown and cared for. The presentation is about 20 minutes long. There will be U-pick available after the presentation as well. There is a greater chance of rain in the afternoon, so the better time for U-pick is in the morning.

Natural Bridge of Virginia: Natural Bridge
        *Please contact Gleamer at 540.292.3002 if you are preregistered and will not be attending or if you will be late.

9:45am     Arrive Natural Bridge located at 15 Appledore Lane , Natural Bridge. Here is more information on their location. http://www.naturalbridgeva.com/location_directions.php After folks      use the restroom we will check in as a group and begin our tour at 10am.
We will be at the Bridge and Village in the morning and go through the Butterfly Exhibit and Museums in the afternoon. Lunch is planned for 11:30. You are welcome to stick with the group or go off on your own.

Buckingham Branch Railroad: Staunton

        *Please contact Gleamer at 540.292.3002 if you are registered and will not be attending.

No later than 9:15am Arrive Buckingham Branch Railroad located directly off of Middlebrook Avenue just beyond Sunspots as you\'re leaving downtown. The address is 650 C&O Flats, Staunton. Park on the grass.
There are 80 people on this field trip. We will need to split into 4 groups and rotate through stations. If you are not there on time you may not be able to find your group. If you add yourself randomly to a group there may be too many folks in that group making the field trip difficult for everyone else.
11:30am Lunch. Grab a bite in downtown Staunton or picnic at the park of your choice.

Fastrax: Waynesboro

1:00pm   Arrive Fastrax located at 1110 Red Top Orchard Road in Waynesboro, directly off of I-64, exit 94. Bring funds to pay for go carts and games.
3:00pm   Finish Fastrax field trip.


Kids Matter Day at Gypsy Hill Park

Raw Learning will be participating in Kids Matter Day on March 5th from 10am – 2pm     at the Gypsy Hill Park Gym. Stop by and see us there for fun kid activities and learning!

Arrive Frontier Culture Museum located directly off of I-81, exit 222 at 1290 Richmond Avenue in Staunton. Check in as a group, use the restrooms, and head to our first destination.
9:30-11:30am 18th Century Ireland to 1740s America
11:30-12:30pm Picnic lunch in a covered pavilion or in the Octagonal Barn
12:30-2:30pm 1850s American Farm to School House

Classic Carriage: Harrisonburg
10:25am Meet on Boyers Rd, adjacent to Cullison Court in Harrisonburg. The coordinates are 38.401053,-78.849249. Pull as far into the drive way next to the field as possible. Please arrive       at  10:25 so that parking doesn't cut into the field trip.
11:30am End Classic Carriage portion of field trip.

Chuck Wagon: Penn Laird
12:00pm    Arrive Chuck Wagon located at 4741 Spotswood Trail  in Penn Laird. Order your biscuits and lunch.
12:15pm    As folks finish lunch and are ready, a guided interactive tour of the photos and regalia will commence.
1:00pm      Field trip ends.

Basic Family CPR and First Aid: Staunton (also held at Raw Learning)
12:30pm-CPR Workshop begins. Ages 3-8 will given separate instruction during CPR and will rejoin the main group for first aid.
2:30pm-Workshop ends.

Raw Learning Open House

It's your lucky day! Raw Learning is having an Open House on Friday, April 13th!
We will welcome families from 4-7pm. There will be class demonstrations, question and answer sessions, and finger food.
If you have never been to Raw Learning, this is a great opportunity to learn more! If you are a regular, bring a friend.

Attend Raw Learning for FREE!
Bring your family on a Friday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 and your family attends for free in exchange for being available for the young people whose parents are in the meeting. Please let Gleamer know if you are interested.

8:55am-Arrive WVPT located at 298 Port Republic Road in Harrisonburg.
9:00am-Interactive tour begins.
10:00am-Tour ends.
Cat's Cradle: Harrisonburg
10:25am-Arrive Cat's Cradle located at 124 S. Main Street (on the corner of E. Water St and S. Main St.) in Harrisonburg. A parking map is available here.
10:30am-Tour begins. Don't forget your cat toy!
11:00am-Tour ends.
LUNCH-Picnic in Denton Park, which is a pocket park next to You Made It, or picnic in the green space across from Turner Pavilion where the Harrisonburg Farmers' Market is held or grab a bite at your favorite Harrisonburg eatery. Both picnic spots have seating.
WHSV: Harrisonburg
11:55am-Gather to the right of the entrance to the Harrisonburg Children's Museum located at 150 S. Main St (on the other corner of E. Water St. and S. Main St.) and get your name tag. A parking map is available here.
12:00pm-Gleamer will lead the entry into the museum through the field trip door for field trip orientation. There will be a weather related activity and then we will walk the short distance to WHSV. Upon returning, there will be free play at the museum until 2:00.
Please make sure your child(ren):
    Walk in the museum.
    Use inside voices.
    Clean up area before exploring another area.
    Be gentle with exhibits.
    Take turns.
    Respect the museum and other visitors.
Please keep the following in mind:
    Students may explore all exhibit areas except for "Over in the Meadow", our infant/toddler area.
    Bathrooms and drinking fountains are located in the back of the museum.
    Only three people are permitted in the ambulance cab at a time.
    One person at a time should be using the slide. Please remind students to go up     through the climbing structure and down through the slide.
    Face paint should be used only on the face.
    Keep all your child(ren) within your sight.
    You are Raw Learning and homeschooling representatives to the community.
